Shoulder Surgery India | Bankart Repairs | Rotator Cuff
Like the mythical Hercules, we too need to balance our worlds on our shoulders. And there are no two ways about it that this constant weightlifting has its pros and cons. Some true, mostly fabricated
Bursitis is the commonest shoulder problem
People often use “bursitis” loosely to describe the commonest cause of shoulder pain. Rotator cuff tendinitis is most often the culprit
In the early stages, Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive capsulitis) and Tendonitis can be indistinguishable
If the doctor doesn’t actually try and move the arm himself, diagnosis could be wrong. On confirming a Frozen Shoulder, a steroid shot is given, the symptoms recede. Moral of the story, steroid injections cure Frozen Shoulder!
Softball Pitching is safe
Research has shown that incidences of pitching injuries in softball are nearly the same as in baseball
Impingement syndromes are fractures
No, impingement syndrome is caused by excessive squeezing or rubbing of the rotator cuff and shoulder blade which can lead to a torn rotator cuff
Dislocation
If you dislocate your shoulder, a simple snap will not put the joint back in place. Instead, put ice on the injury and seek emergency medical attention
There are four main types of shoulder surgeries viz.

Bankart repairs, so named because of the Bankart lesion condition it addresses, are performed for habitual anterior shoulder dislocations

Rotator cuff (debridement) surgery is resorted to when debris from the shoulder’s rotator cuff needs to be removed, given more space (subacromial smoothing) or sewing together torn edges of the muscle and bone

Shoulder replacement surgery is resorted to when the whole (or part of) the shoulder one is born with becomes useless and has to be replaced with prosthetic implants

Reverse Shoulder Replacement is resorted to when one develops rotator cuff arthropathy (arthritis of the shoulder joint consequent to a huge rotator cuff tear which is irreparable)
