GASTROENTEROLOGY
Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on studying with the digestive disorders. Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (GI), includes organs ranging from mouth to anus, inclusive of the alimentary canal, are the major focus of gastroenterology. Physicians who study and practice this science are known as gastroenterologists. They go through the pre-medical education of eight years, and internship. Gastroenterologists perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that include colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde, ERCP, and liver biopsy.
They perform endoscopic procedures using specialized instruments to ensure proper diagnosis. Surgery is not performed in some cases while in other surgery is required depending upon the condition of the patient.
