Pulmonary rehabilitation is a set of exercise education and support system for patients dealing with COPD or ILD, which is interstitial lung disease. These patients are helped with these set of exercises to breath freely and function at the highest possible level. Now, these exercises cannot be of a fixed duration because they are individualized and designed according to the needs of the patient.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is not very new in India, but people are unaware of the fact that it can help them. Pulmonary rehabilitation as the words suggest help the patient to fight with decapitating, deconditioning that the disease brings to them. For patients with COPD, asthma, ILD, breaking freely is a blessing. For them, these exercises help a lot. They are able to function on a daily basis at a good breathing capacity. They are able to climb stairs which for me and you, it may be easy but for COPD patients, it’s a task. For walking, for stair climbing, these patients have difficulty in breathing. Pulmonary rehabilitation helps them be functional at a level which is comfortable for them.
These programs mostly last for 4-12 weeks and more and are conducted about 2 – 3 times a week. Pulmonary rehabilitation is the concept which will help the patients.
